Course Intent

This two day course is designed to expose the clinicians to the advanced surgical and orthodontic aspects of the Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics (AOO) technique and to the unique manner in which these must be coordinated to maximize the potential of this technique. The lecture will be given with the aid of Powerpoint slides and videos. A workbook will be provided that addresses surgical and follow-up protocols and the step by step fabrication of customized orthodontic devices as well as the current literature on this technique. Attendees receive 16 CE credits (AGD).

Course Objectives

After completing this course the clinician should be able to utilize the new diagnostic parameters needed to treatment plan the various orthodontic classifications and properly design the surgical aspects needed to support the orthodontic objectives.

Seminar Schedule

Friday 8:00 am – 12:00 pm

-The rational and physiologic basis for rapid tooth movement facilitated with a one-stage surgical procedure. The role that CT scan imaging can play in orthodontic diagnosing and treatment planning.

-Sorting through almost half a century of misunderstanding concerning the mode of rapid tooth movement. Shedding the mechanical mind set of “bony block” movement and replacing this with the physiologic interpretation of “bone matrix transportation”.

-Proper utilization of bone thinning and bone activation to take full advantage of the demineralization phase of the RAP.

-Adapting to the new orthodontic treatment parameters that take into consideration the 2-fold to 3-fold increase in the limits of tooth movement and the 3-fold to 4-fold increase in the speed of tooth movement

-The importance of the alveolar and gingival grafting in providing for a more intact periodontium and increased long term stability.

Friday 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

-Orthodontic versus orthopedic forces in decrowding and expansive movements and in space closing. Modifying the orthodontic adjustment scheduling to take full advantage of the “window of opportunity”.

-Understanding the potential and limitations in regards to subtle facial reshaping and substitution for orthognathic surgery.

-In depth treatment planning and facilitation of the coordination of the surgical and orthodontic aspects of the treatment.

Saturday 8:00 am – 12:00 pm

-The proper sequencing of the rapid forced eruption of shallow versus deeply impacted teeth.

-Treatment planning, treatment planning and more treatment planning. Understanding the various health issues and medications that can impact on the delivery of this treatment.

-Points of interest and how to avoid complications.

Saturday 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

-Addressing the esthetics of the entire lower face and the adjustment of lip lines.

-Marketing this technique to your patients. You will have the option of purchasing special marketing materials that have been developed to aid you in patient education and case acceptance.

Patient Referral Source

Since its inception in 1998 the Wilckodontics® website has experienced a steady growth in activity. Following the successful completion of this course your name will be included in the trained professional listing. This website has proved to be a valuable tool for patient education and for the identification of a trained professional for the patient to contact.

This course is presented by Dr. William Wilcko and Dr. Thomas Wilcko, who over the past 14 years have developed and perfected this technique. Guest lecturers are typically also included to offer their expertise in specific areas, especially as concerns the intricacies of the underlying bone physiology and medical considerations. More than 700 professionals in 29 countries have been trained in this technique. At each meeting there are usually one or more of these professionals sharing cases that they have treated utilizing this technique.

Here are the Experiences of a Few Former Course Attendees:

"As a Periodontist, I work with a number of Orthodontic colleagues who utilize PAOO as a vital treatment option for their patients.  PAOO not only accelerates the movement of teeth but the bone regenerated allows for better and more stable orthodontic results.  After performing the surgery for PAOO on hundreds of patients, I can vouch for the safety and efficacy of this procedure.”

– Dr. Charles A. White, Periodontist, Bentonville, Arkansas

“Probably the best course I have attended in years! The PAOO approach has significantly impacted on the way I address recession and GBR procedures. It has also consolidated the way our interdisciplinary team addresses complex and comprehensive treatment planning. The orthodontist will see cases more biologically, and the periodontist will appreciate the mechanical aspects of orthodontic treatment.

My advice, round up your favorite orthodontists and ‘just do it’ (the course)! You will never look back!”

– Colin Richman, Periodontist; Roswell, Georgia
