Course Summary:

Platelet rich fibrin and Platelet rich plasma are used extensively in medicine and dentistry to enhance healing after various surgical procedures. Previous techniques developed were either too expensive or too complex to use on a regular basis by the implant dentist in the office setting. This course is designed to teach a relatively simple, inexpensive, scientifically proven way to enhance your patients’ healing after almost any surgical procedure, especially implant and implant related surgery. We will teach the science and practice of PRP and L-PRF that can be implemented in a very practical way in the offices of dentists who want to realize the many benefits of these procedures for both their patients and themselves.

Educational Objectives:
  1. Learn the scientific rationale for using L-PRF and PRP in implant procedures for the enhancement of healing for both hard and soft tissue.
  2. Become knowledgeable in the collection of appropriate blood samples needed to process L-PRF and PRP .
  3. Learn to process and harvest L-PRF and PRP through the use of a simple centrifuge
  4. Learn to deliver these products to various surgical sites
  5. Learn how to utilize dental assistants to make this an efficient everyday procedure in the dental setting.
  6. Learn how to grow your practice through the increased confidence your patients will have in you and the increased referral of other patients that will result from the use of PRP and L-PRF.
  7. Understand why and how to incorporate PRP and L-PRF into subepithelial connective tissue graft surgery.
  8. Understand how to use effective pharmacological strategies to ensure patient comfort with fewer post-operative complications.
  9. Observe the clinical collection of whole blood, centrifugation process, harvesting of PRP and L-PRF and application to surgical site(s) for socket grafting.

That offices that participate in this course would obtain sufficient knowledge to implement PRP and L-PRF procedures into their surgical protocol in an efficient and effective manner. By doing so they should realize the significant benefits of: enhanced healing, fewer complications, fewer failed and compromised cases, and increased patient satisfaction.

Discussion Topics:
  • Principles of PRP and L-PRF
  • Radiographic evaluation
  • Phlebotomy protocols
  • Practical application of PRP and L-PRF
  • How does this simple technique compare with the more expensive commercially available techniques?

It has been reported that L-PRF and PRP can either enhance or reduce bone formation. This course explains why both thoughts are correct and how L-PRF and PRP should be processed to ensure predictable bone formation and decreased time to functional load. The program will also demonstrate: i) their use with sub-epithelial connective tissue grafts and ii) relevant peri-operative pain pharmacology to ensure a favorable treatment result and patient comfort.
