Learn how to prevent future implant
            complications

This lecture is designed to help dentists in
          dealing with common implant complications,
in particular to avoid these complications before
they occur. It will provide the basics of treatment
planning concepts and the mechanism of bone
loss and implant failure; and howt to deal and
prevent these problems. The treatment for implant
          diseases/complications include: chemotherapeutic
agents, apically positioned flap with or without
          implantoplasty, implant surface detoxification,
guided bone regeneration, soft tissue grafts, implant
removal as well as re-implantation. In addition,
participants will also learn how to perform implant
maintenance care. This presentation will also focus
on discussing many key factors that are essential for
          avoiding implant esthetic nightmares. Procedures
used to correct or enhance esthetic outcomes
such as socket augmentation, orthodontic forced
          eruption, guided bone augmentation, monocortical
onlay grafts, soft tissue grafts and pink porcelain or
veneer will also be briefly presented.

The second session of the Misch International Implant Institute™ advances the clinician’s skill level and
knowledge of root forms. The focus of this session will include surgery, uncovery and short and long term
complications for root forms. Complications presented include: excessive bleeding during surgery, nerve
damage and bone loss during initial healing. The second surgical session addresses partial and completely
edentulous mandibular overdentures and fixed prostheses for multiple adjacent missing teeth in the
posterior mandible. Altered surgical approaches, dependent upon bone density are presented in detail. The bone volume classification covered at
this session is Misch-Judy Division A and B. Hands-on labs will give clinicians the chance to apply learned techniques in a controlled environment.

Hands-on Workshops Include:

Occlusion techniques in implantology

Implant placement on sawdust jaws

3-D digital imaging manipulation

Surgical guide fabrication on preparatory models from participants’ own patients

Suturing techniques on pig jaws

Surgical flaps design and manipulation on sawdust jaws and later on pig jaws

Soft tissue grafting on pig jaws

Staff education operatory set-up, patient presentation skills, setup of implant armamentarium

Each Saturday and Sunday from 8:30am to 5:00pm, featured speakers provide in-depth information in their particular areas of expertise (see Course Schedule). Throughout the course, representatives from the major implant systems, specialty instrument manufacturers and grafting material suppliers will be on-site to ensure that the participants gain a broad understanding of all products and techniques available.

Since successful implant dentistry depends upon the involvement of the entire practice, the November session provides the opportunity for participants to train and certify (ICOI) their team members.. The goals for this session include incorporating implant surgery into participants’ practices and providing staff with the skills and confidence necessary to assist in placing implants. Together, teams will view live surgeries and attend lectures on case presentation, office organization and implant maintenance. In special break-out sessions, team members will learn how to set up specialized equipment and how to effectively assist throughout the entire implant process.

All lectures and laboratory sessions take place in a state-of-the-art facility located just minutes from the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). The Research Triangle Park area is unparalleled in its commitment to research and technology, its beauty and its Southern hospitality.

Guided Surgical Placement of Dental Implants

Dr. Malin graduated from Marquette University in 1991. He maintains a private practice in LaCrosse, WI, where he has been utilizing occlusal based dental concepts since l998. Early in his career, he discovered that the implant placement techniques used could not deliver a standard, predictable result. Therefore, with the help of other experts in the fields of radiology and occlusion, Dr. Malin developed an implant placement technique which focused on occlusion (and cosmetics) for implant placement and crown restoration. This technique has led to five patents pending along with exceptional implant results. Dr. Malin lectures throughout North America on full-mouth reconstructions and implant placement. a smile echoes health, wealth, demeanor

This course trains you to perfect
the dentition with periodontal

indistinguishable from natural teeth.

We provide a step-by-step tutorial
that enables you to diagnose, design and

a hands-on practicum shall cement
your knowledge. In particular, we will
showcase the newest as well as most
predictable grafting methods known
to attain a harmonious smile.

options, patient force factors, bone density, implant positions, number of implant abutments, ideal implant
size for each tooth location, and bone volume related treatment options are presented in detail. CT and
radiographic interpretation workshops and hands-on suturing techniques and implant insertion in the
treatment models are also provided. The surgical procedure and prosthesis type presented in the first session
is the replacement of a mandibular single posterior missing tooth.
